Q. I've signed up with Check Data Systems and submitted a bad check. How will the database affect the bad check writer?

A. The bad check/ACH writer will not be able to open a new bank account with 8 of every 10 banks in the United States. Also, the database will inform over seventy thousand merchant locations not to accept a check presented to them by the bad check/ACH writer. Once flagged in our system, the retail merchant will provide an 800 telephone number for your client to call. The 800 operator will inform the caller that the bad check/ACH writer will be removed from the data base and allowed to write checks AFTER your company is paid in full AND you request us to remove the bad check/ACH writer from the data base.

Q. Just how do these retailers verify whether my bad check/ACH writer is already in their data base alerting them to not accept the check?

These companies (Wal-Mart™, Sears™, Target™, etc) scan the check through their check registers, and check the SCAN™ database. If the customer (your bad check/ACH writer) is in the system, the customer is flagged and receives an 800# direct to SCAN™ which ends up in our office.

Q. Will I have to send the actual check for it to be up loaded?

A. No. Check information can be accepted through this website. Clients can log in to their accounts and enter the checks. We require the client's routing number where the check was returned, the debtors name, his social security number, a date, the routing number on his check, his account number, the amount, the check number (optional) , his old address (and a driver's license if possible). The information received from clients will be up loaded to the database within 48 hours. The bad check writer is now unable to write a check to over 70,000 merchant locations nor open a bank account at most banks.

Q. What about the interest and fees that are added to the face value of a returned check?

A. We can only accept the face value of the check to be entered into the system.

Q. How are my checks stored?

A. We store your information in an encrypted database. A backup copy of your information is stored on an encrypted server.

Q. How long does it take to delete a bad check writer after he/she pays off the debt?

A. From 24 to 72 hours. In addition it is required that you, the merchant, inform us within 24 hours of receipt of payment by the bad check/ACH writer.

Q. What is the advantage of using CheckDataSystem for improving my collections compared with using Telecheck™ or Teletrack™?

A. TeleCheck™ actually is a complement of SCAN. Our SCAN solution was developed by payday loan and check cashing experts who recognized the need for a product focused on our industry. Our SCAN solution provides you with a much bigger "foot print" enabling you to collect your bad debt. Additionally, you have the advantage of a collections solution designed and administered by payday loan and check cashing experts with over 25 years combined experience!

TeleTrack™ is a reporting service primarily for rent-to-own companies, pawn shops, payday loan lenders, buy-here-pay-here auto dealers, and other sub-prime financial services. By reporting to TeleTrack™ you may prevent a check writer from receiving a loan elsewhere (providing they subscribe to TeleTrack™) , BUT NOT from opening a new bank account or cashing a personal check at one of the 70,000 retail locations the Check Data Systems solution partners with.

Q.If I submit my customer data into the Check Data System data base, how can I verify that that person has been "red-flaged"?

A. After you enter your bad check/ACH customer into the system, and it is received by SCAN, the system will time and date stamp it. When your customer attempts to write a check you are called.

Q. If I send you my check information will other stores have access to my information?

A. No. When Merchants sign up they are given a unique user name and they create an exclusive password. Later, when they want to log in at the website, they can only access the checks that they submitted. Also in our disclosures we state that we will not share, forward, or use any information submitted to us, for any purpose except as required by law.

Q. How long does a check writer remain in the system once his name has been entered?

A. Five years unless he is deleted for payment. In other words, we remove the bad check writer or ACH from our data base when you inform us you have been paid.

Q. Can I submit all of my old checks into the database?

A. Yes, as long as each submitted check is no more than six months old.

Q. On your application you ask for business license information and a tax identification number. Why do you need all of that?

A. As required by federal law, as a negative database reporting service, the identity of your company must be verified to ensure that you have a legitimate purpose to report negative data.

Q. If I signup, how long am I committed to using the Check Data Systems service?

A. There are no long term contracts or committments. We bill you for a $19.95 Application Fee and $19.95 each month for your first location and $5.00 for each additional location on the first of each Month. Additionally, there is a $.30 charge for each item (check or ACH) entered into our data base. Either of us may cancel the service for any reason with 60 days notice.
